Universe Legends

The Universe Championships is the most prestigious bodybuilding event in the World.  It is a meeting of the best athletes from each country, coming together to compete with the best of the best, for the ultimate bodybuilding title.

The Universe Championships is the oldest running show in the history of body building.  Starting in 1949, it was known that year as ‘Health and Strength’.  From that small beginning, the Universe Championships have grown to be the ‘who’s who’ in the sport of Body Building.

It is an honour in itself, to represent your country, competing at the Universe Championships. But it is the greatest honour, and the highest achievement attainable as a bodybuilder, to be a Universe Champion.  This is a title that puts you up in the running with the biggest names of bodybuilding history.  Many have attempted to win but few have succeeded.

Oscar Heidenstam was the facilitator of the Universe Championships. He had the ability to build a vision into an amazing event, and the foresight to steer the Universe Championships through many developments over a lifetime of dedication to the sport of BodyBuilding and specifically the Universe Championships. 1950 – 1990.

In 1983, Oscar Heidenstam asked a young man from Australia, Jose Lopez to formalise NABBA International, to insure the legend of the Universe Championships would remain as a true International Event.

Oscar Heidenstam placed the rights of the Universe Championships under the umbrella of NABBA International rules, to insure the future of the Championships would be protected and honored by people who valued the sport of bodybuilding with the same passion and vision as himself.

Traditionally the Universe Championships were held every year in England.  After the 2000 Universe, NABBA UK was under a cloud of alleged corrupt practice and left NABBA International to join the WFF.  This left NABBA International in a difficult position without an established NABBA UK to host the Universe, as was done in all past years.

NABBA International saw fit to develop the Universe Championships into a roaming event that would now move around the globe.

With all the excellence, distinction and prestige of the Championships maintained, the world venue can only be another attribute to the strength of the Universe Championships.

So as this legend grows, introduced by the visionary excellence of Oscar Heidenstam, and keeping the flame alive through NABBA International, we can clearly see the legend living on, as legends in the making step onto the stage of the Universe Championships.
